Patients Right to Mobility

There should be a bill of rights for patients. A patient who loses their ability to move can quickly become a prisoner to his present location. You don’t think about how many times you move every day.  Normally even staying at home going from the bed, to bathroom, to the kitchen, living room and even the door requires hundreds of separate moves.

One small injury and that can end. A recent caregiver calculated the minimum number of times he had to transfer his invalid wife was around 40 times a day for her to have some normalcy in her life. Without this assisted mobility she would quickly become a prisoner to her disability.  In many cases there does not seem to be a solution but there are tools and training now available that can reduce the effort to keep them free.
