Nursing Is Not As Dangerous As Alaskan King Crab Fishing

  • In Uncategorized

That’s right, but it is in the top 10 most dangerous occupations for your musculoskeletal system. The reasons are not hard to figure out.  The overexertion strain from reaching, pulling, pushing and lifting patients adds up.  This problem seems easy to solve, just get mechanical transfer equipment and the manual lifting will be a thing of the past.  This sounds so logical to me.  But in reality it rarely works that way.  It turns out that the lack of availability of this equipment, the time required to operate it and the immediate nature of  the need to transfer make it easier to just perform the manual lift that the equipment was intended to eliminate.

It does not to be all or nothing in patient transfer.  There is a simple solution that will fill the gap and reduce the load on the patient care staff or caregiver.  A simple horizontal secure transfer plate called “The Swivel”. At 12 lbs its small enough to carry around,  it is so affordable you can have them wherever they are needed, they are secure enough to anchor the patient during transfer and they can reduce the load from 50% of body weight on an assisted transfer to 10%.  Less than carrying in the groceries.

There are 14 safe transfer techniques for transferring patients that can assist to those who cannot assist in the transfer process.  These assisted transfer techniques cover every day real life situations caregivers are faced with such as car to wheel chair,  low to high surface, patients that cannot stand, and patients that cannot assist at all. The Safe Patient Transfer University training program provides the online training to master the 14 techniques that make up the Balance-Pivot transfers but only 5 are normally needed. There is even testing and certification for professional caregivers to insure the entire staff is on the same page  mrswivel.com
